Members-only preview of Fight for Suffrage

The Fight For Suffrage will cover the movement for women to gain the right to vote in a temporary exhibit at the Galena & U.S. Grant Museum at 211 S. Bench Street. The exhibit opens at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 at a special preview for members of the Galena-Jo Daviess County Historical Society and the Jo Daviess County League of Women Voters. The Fight for Suffrage temporary exhibit

The Fight For Suffrage will cover the movement for women to gain the right to vote in a temporary exhibit at the Galena & U.S. Grant Museum at 211 S. Bench Street. The exhibit opens to the public on Friday, Aug. 23 and will be open through 2020. The Galena Historical Society's Old Blacksmith Shop, in partnership with the Upper Midwest Blacksmith Association (UMBA) will present a special hands-on workshop titled “The Other Side of the Anvil.”  Under a large canopy located on the lawn adjacent to the Stillman mansion, six forging stations, complete with forge, anvil, vise, and tools, will be fired up, and skilled regional blacksmiths will provide hands-on smithing instruction for all comers.
