Rich the Blacksmith

Meet Rich the Blacksmith. He runs the Old Blacksmith Shop on Commerce Street downtown from May through October. He looks like a blacksmith, doesn’t he — with those big, meaty hands and forearms. Schedule a time to visit Rich and the other outstanding blacksmiths. They’ll demonstrate how they create all sorts of one-of-a-kind objects using fire, ore, billows, hammers, anvils and other smithing tools.

The Galena-Jo Daviess County Historical Society also hosts The Other Side of the Anvil: Blacksmithing and Music Fest on Oct. 19 and 20. With a blacksmithing workshop, food, drinks and two days of live music, there are many ways to enjoy history during the prime time of fall colors. Learn more about it on our website.
