Historical Society kicks off winter lectures series with virtual program,
“Mrs. Lincoln’s Salon” performance by Debra Ann Miller
GALENA, IL – The Galena – Jo Daviess County Historical Society first program in its winter lecture series will begin 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16th, 2022. “Mrs. Lincoln’s Salon” will be performed by professional actress, Debra Ann Miller.
This is a virtual program. Join us at: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/89760615168
The audience is invited to reminisce with Mrs. Lincoln about her childhood, her children and days in Springfield as she celebrates Tad’s 12th birthday, and the end of the Civil War. Drawing from her own letters to friends, family and political figures of the era, Mrs. Lincoln’s Salon is a 45-minute performance that paints a picture of Mary Lincoln that is both sympathetic and truthful.
Debra Ann Miller has traveled the country portraying one of our nation’s more controversial First Ladies, Mary Todd Lincoln. In 2010, she began writing and producing one-woman plays in which she portrays important historical figures such as Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott, Dolley Madison, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
“I believe historical reenactment performances can give insights that help us understand and process the human experience,” says Tessa Flak, executive director of the Historical Society. “This is the first of four-monthly programs we are offering through April. The programs are open to the public and free of charge. Donation encouraged.
The Galena – Jo Daviess County Historical Society is a nonprofit organization that operates both the Galena and U.S. Grant History Museum and the Old Blacksmith Shop.
