invites you to celebrate

Ulysses S. Grant’s Birthday

Friday – Sunday April 20-22, 2018

In Beautiful & Historic Galena, Illinois

Plans are being made to celebrate the birthday of our 18th president, Ulysses S. Grant, right here in Galena, Illinois. Did you know that U.S. Grant lived in Galena prior to the civil war and ran for president while living in Galena? Learn more about his life here during our annual Grant birthday celebration.

We’re planning activities that will include battle re-enactments, historic Women of Courage and Commitment performances, an old-time pie auction, and an evening trivia contest. We hope General Grant will be available for a Main Street Walking Tour on Saturday and Sunday mornings. A lamplight tour of the home where Grant lived after the civil war is also being planned. Located at 500 Bouthillier Street, the home is now a state historic site.

On Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22, there’s sure to be free cake and lemonade at the Galena and U.S. Grant Museum at 211 S. Bench Street. We’ll be open each day from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
