Grant’s 199th Birthday Celebration!

April 17

Free

Join us for a FUN-filled weekend of activities in celebration of President U.S. Grant’s 199th Birthday. The festivities begin at 10:00 am with a Main Street Walking Tour with General U.S. Grant beginning at the DeSoto House Hotel.  The excitement continues at 11:00 am with the annual Pie and Gift Basket Auction in the parking lot of Spotsie’s – 403 S Main St.  President Abraham Lincoln will again be acting as our Master of Ceremonies/Auctioneer.  General Grant will conduct a second Main Street Walking Tour at noon for those that could not attend the 10:00 am excursion, and of course, the Galena & U.S. Grant History Museum (211 S Bench St) will open its doors with FREE ADMISSION all weekend. President Lincoln, having finished another wildly successful auction, will address the good people of Galena – presenting the “Genesis of the Gettysburg Address” at the DeSoto House Hotel.

The Galena History Hunt will continue to be the family event of the weekend.  Purchase your map (available at the Museum or online) and return it with your completed answers before 4:00 pm on April 18th to be eligible for the drawing for a Grand Prize of $500.00 and other prizes to be awarded on April 19th. See History Hunt rules for more information…
