Discover the Art of Blacksmithing!
Fun for all ages
Join us for a two-day blacksmithing event that features forging and historic demonstrations! Participants will have the opportunity to create functional objects like a bottle opener, S hook, etc. with one of the Old Blacksmith Shop’s artisans! This is a unique opportunity to work hands-on with a coal forge and gain insight into what it is like to work at a 3,000-year-old craft.
When: October 14-15, 2023
Where: Stillman Mansion
513 Bouthillier St.
Galena, IL 61036
Cost: FREE admission to grounds, demonstrations, and games.
Interested in trying you hand at forging? Make an object with us!

We will offer multiple forging stations—complete with forge, anvil, vise and tools. Our forges will be fired up and skilled regional blacksmiths will provide hands-on instruction for participants of all ages.
Persons of any age can participate, but those under 18 must have the signed permission of an adult and may, in some cases, need to be accompanied by a guardian while they work. Safety glasses and gloves will be provided. Participants will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis.
